"Fascinating to explore these Inca ruins, although they are not on the scale of the remains in Peru. But interesting nonetheless. Great views of the surrounding countryside from the site too. "
The famous Devil's Nose train ride is an engineering marvel that winds down through some of the most spectacular scenery in Ecuador. An exhilarating and breath-taking train ride with a stop on the way to witness traditional Andean culture.
When hearing about Inca ruins one most likely thinks of Machu Picchu in Peru first. However great ancient work of the Incas can also be experienced in Ecuador.
The biggest Inca ruins in the country are called “Ingapirca”, which means “Inca wall” in Quechua, and are located just about a two-hour drive from Cuenca. The impressive stonework was approximately built 50 years before the Spaniards arrived and colonized the country.
Next, to marveling at the ruins, it is a great place to dive into the authentic Andean culture and it might even feel like going back in time for some. Farmers work the fields in traditional methods just like nothing has changed in the past centuries. Today's UNESCO heritage’s site, including its temple of the sun, is a fantastic opportunity to get a direct experience of the Inca culture.
