Study Spanish and Volunteer
Many volunteer opportunities are available through Yanapuma Foundation in Ecuadorian communities in the Andes, in the Amazon rainforests and cloud forests, and at the coast. Our aim is to encourage the development of sustainable practices in social, environmental and economic terms. Thus we can offer you the chance to contribute your specific skills or general talents in a variety of different roles.
We also work with other local organizations in Quito, and can offer several different volunteer options locally depending on your particular interests. For more information about the opportunities available, please contact us with your specific interests and we will reply promptly.
Our Foundation provides long-term individual opportunities in communities across Ecuador, and frequently organizes short-term group projects. Students can also take part in cultural exchange programs that help fledgling community ecotourism projects.
Long-term volunteering opportunities include:
- teaching English, computing, and other subjects to children and adults in small communities,
- basic health, nutrition, hygiene education
- contributing other specific skills
Our short-term group projects are generally one or two-week projects that achieve a specific result. Examples include:
- reforestation
- construction
- agricultural/land development projects.
For most of these projects, a basic knowledge of Spanish is necessary.
Yanapuma also offers the chance to take part in cultural exchange by visiting a developing indigenous community as a guest for one week or more, and learn about their way of life, culture, and relationship to the environment while practicing your Spanish. We work with communities in the Amazon rainforest, at the coast, and in the Andes. More information is available on our foundation website at www.yanapuma.org.
