Yanapuma's Spanish program is recognized and authorized by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education (registration number #1603DINEPP-MEC).

How Spanish Study Works . . .

New students are evaluated at the start of classes by their teacher and a personalized curriculum is developed on the basis of the students current knowledge and eventual goals in learning Spanish.

Our standard Spanish program includes 20 hours per week, 4 hours per day, of one-to-one Spanish instruction. Classes normally run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2.00 PM to 6.00 PM, but if you would like to arrange a different class schedule, we can usually accommodate your needs.  All of our classes are designed to be flexible to adapt to the specific needs and learning styles of the student.

We offer primarily individual one-to-one classes because this is the most effective way to learn. We can organize group classes (for example if friends or a couple want to study together, or for children), but we do not offer regular group classes. You will learn as much in 2 weeks of individual study as you would in 3 or even 4 weeks of group classes, which makes one-to-one classes much more economical in terms of both money and time!

To help keep classes interesting and active, we use a variety of teaching aids beyond the standard textbook, designed to help students to master all aspects of the Spanish language equally. We encourage students to explore Quito’s many attractions with their teacher during classes as an addition to more formal in-class study. These outings can include trips to Quito’s Old Town, walks through the New Town and the Northern sector, museums, zoo, universities, markets, and other places of interest.

About Our Teaching . . .

Our Spanish curriculum offers the highest standards of teaching by highly experienced and qualified teachers, all of whom are certified in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, and almost all hold university degrees.

At Yanapuma, we have developed a unique philosophy and practice of teaching Spanish and native languages.  Our methodology was developed cooperatively by our teachers themselves—the people who are most knowledgeable in effective methods of language learning and teaching—and they work hard to continually improve the program based on student feedback

Our teaching methods are based on an in-depth analysis of language teaching methodologies (click here for more information). We include a wide range of multimedia materials for learning at all levels of Spanish, and regular monitoring of student progress. Our teaching materials include professional texts, a library, Spanish language films, and a language laboratory for practice and learning correct Spanish pronunciation, comprehension and vocabulary.

Our teachers bring experience from their professional lives in other areas as well, including knowledge of the history, culture, traditions, politics and customs of Ecuador and Latin America.  Through this experience, they have the talent and dedication for teaching Spanish in a manner that is both professional and engaging, sharing their experience and knowledge with the student.

The Learning Environment . . .

The learning environment at Yanapuma is different from many schools, with an open café-style setting with plenty of natural light and a comfortable ambience. We strive to provide an optimal learning environment in a relaxed atmosphere to permit the student to learn Spanish at an optimal pace. We encourage students to feel at home and use our facilities as a comfortable base from which to explore Quito. Look around our school.

We also offer optional conversation sessions, cooking and salsa classes, movie nights, and other social activities to keep life outside of Spanish classes interesting.

If you have any questions or would like more information about our school and Spanish classes or to discuss your particular requirements, please email us.
