Spanish Study at Yanapuma
Basic Spanish Program
Our basic Spanish program includes 20 hours per week, 4 hours per day, of one to one Spanish instruction. Classes normally run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2.00 PM to 6.00 PM. We can arrange group lessons with advance notice, but most Spanish students find that individual instruction is the most effective method to learn the language. If you would like to arrange a different class schedule, we can usually accommodate your needs. More information is available in this section on our teaching methods and our teachers.
The School
The learning environment at Yanapuma is different from many schools, where students often study in small, cramped cubicles. We offer a café-style setting in a large, divided open room with plenty of natural light and a nice view. The space is quiet, with sound absorbing materials, but the class areas have an open feel. Outdoor classes are also possible at our school. Students are encouraged to explore Quito’s markets, museums, parks and tourist areas with their teacher during classes.
Optional Packages
Intensive Spanish Packages in Quito
For those wishing to really focus on learning and practicing their Spanish while offering their time to help others, we offer our Quito Volunteer Package that combines four hours of classroom study with three hours per day of volunteer work, giving you an opportunity to practice your Spanish while helping others. In addition to your Spanish classes, you will volunteer in one of our projects in Quito four or five mornings each week, such as working with children in a daycare center in a poor barrio or in the Children’s hospital.
If you will be spending only a short time in Quito, but would like to get to know the city as well as possible, we also offer our Quito Cultural Package. This program offers 4 hours per day, 20 hours per week of Spanish study and four excursions each week in or around Quito. This is a set 2-week program, which can be combined with additional weeks of Spanish study.

Intensive Spanish Study in Ecuadorian Communities
We offer options to study Spanish outside of Quito in small communities at the coast, in the Sierra, and in the Amazon. One program provides one week of study in the beautiful area of Puerto Lopez on the central coast followed by one week of study in the small community of Agua Blanca just to the north. Another program is located in the small community of La Chimba in the high Sierra near the foot of the Cayambe volcano, where you can study for one week or more in stunningly beautiful and tranquil surroundings. We can also arrange classes in other communities, or if you wish to travel around Ecuador, you can travel to places you would like to visit with one of our teachers and study while you travel.

Other Languages
We also offer courses in Kichua, the indigenous language of the descendants of the Inca peoples at our school in Quito, and can arrange classes in other languages such as Shuar and Tsa’fiki for students wishing to learn those and other languages.
